Dental and Mini dental Implants
What Are Dental Implants?
Dental implants provide a secure foundation for dentures, dental crowns, or bridges. The final restoration looks, feels, and functions much like a natural tooth. Unlike removable dentures or traditional bridges, implants are firmly integrated into the jawbone, giving them exceptional stability. This allows patients to eat, speak, and smile with confidence, without worrying about their restoration shifting or slipping.
When a tooth is lost, the jawbone that once supported it gradually begins to deteriorate. As artificial tooth roots, dental implants stimulate the jawbone in much the same way as natural teeth, helping to preserve bone density and maintain facial structure.
The dental implant process typically begins with a comprehensive evaluation of the patient's oral health. Your dentist at Prisma Dentists in Montreal will examine the jawbone to determine whether it is strong and dense enough to support an implant. If necessary, bone regeneration procedures may be recommended to strengthen the bone before implant placement.
During the dental implant procedure, biocompatible titanium posts are surgically placed into the jawbone beneath the gum tissue to replace the root of a missing tooth. This dental surgery is performed under local anesthesia to ensure maximum patient comfort. Several months are then required for the implants to fully integrate with the bone and for complete healing to occur.
